North Carolina Passes Amendment 1: Marriage Defined
So, tonight, North Carolina voters passes Amendment I to the NC State Constitution, defining “marriage” as between “one man and one woman”. Why do people fear Gays so much? A Facebook “friend” posted that she had just voted to protect marriage and that there was “No better way… at least politically… to protect our families!!”
Protect our families from what? a bunch Gays? Yes, folks there is a hidden Gay agenda to destroy our families! Apparently in NC there is!
When I saw the protesters before the election, I wondered- Are they married? sure they are. Why? because the love their spouse I suppose. So, why is that bad for a Gay person? In response they would likely say that it interferes with their first amendment rights of free speech and religious expression if they have to recognize Gay marriages. I would then like to ask each one of them, So, does your Church recognize Gay marriages? No? OK, then problem solved! Your ignorant church can manage its affairs however it seems fit and the rest of us will applaud those who wish to commit themselves to another person for life. Do you have children? wouldn’t you want them to live with one lifelong partner rather than a number of short term affairs? How could you look your son or daughter in the eyes and deny them the same rights and relationship you have?
I am sorry to say I live in NC tonight. It is really a sad day. I was proud when NC went “Blue” in 2008, but I see we still have a long way to go.
